The Experience of Building an Own Computer 2

The rebuilding was finished but what I haven't done yet was building a computer from scratch.

The building of the second computer

After some time I wanted to upgrade my CPU of the old computer but the main board was to old so the new CPU would not have worked with it. Therefore I decided to build a gaming computer but this time from scratch. So I began to search the Swiss online shop digitec for components for my computer. Since I wanted it to be a quiet computer I decided to buy the case and fans from be quiet!. Be quiet! makes pretty good silent fans and cases which damp the sound of the fans. For the rest I mostly bought gaming components. Since I wanted a system which starts up fast I also bought a gaming SSD where I would install the OS on. Additionally I wanted to have a window in the case where I could look into the computer and I wanted LEDs.

Once I had ordered all components I needed (some components were also taken from my old rebuilt computer) I had to wait. Once finally all components had arrived I was able to start building the computer. This time it went a bit smoother than the last time since I already knew a bit more about building computers. So I built my second computer sometimes with a few difficulties here and there but it went pretty well.

One of these difficulties was applying the thermal paste on the CPU since I had never done this before. So I looked up on YouTube how to best apply the thermal paste. In the end I decided do put a line of the paste on the CPU and spread the paste on the whole surface of the CPU so that everything could be cooled efficiently.

Installing of the OS

After I build the computer I had to install the OS. Since I wanted a gaming computer I bought a DVD with Windows 10 which also contained a key. Since I had a CD drive on my computer the installing wasn't very difficult. If I would have had no CD drive I would have needed to enter the BIOS and made the computer boot from the USB drive containing the Windows installation. During the installation I was impatiently waiting for it to finish but since my computer was built to be fast it didn't take too long. Once it had finished however booting up the computer did only make it go to the BIOS instead of the SSD with Windows installed on it. So I had to search again for how to boot windows with an ASUS main board. Once I had changed some settings in the BIOS I was finally able to boot into my computer.

I was actually surprised the first time when I started the computer since it was so fast that right after entering the password and hitting enter Windows was already fully loaded and started. And another thing which surprised me was how Windows automatically started to install all drivers for my components and I just had to wait until they were installed.

Conclusion

With this I had build a computer from scratch and was happy at the end that it worked. For me this is the best computer I have ever had, since all the components are how I want them and the computer is also quiet but powerful with nice LEDs lights. The only thing which was a bit disappointing was that the CPU cooler was so big, that only two of the four RAM spaces could be used and therefore running RAM more efficientely by setting them in A and B spaces was not possible since both A spaces were blocked by the big CPU cooler. Additionally one of the three fans on the CPU cooler was already broken but the two other ones are able to cool the CPU good enought (around 70°C when used in a game and 80°C when used on 100% but a CPU should be fine if it is not hotter than 100°C).

I hope that this motivates a few other people to try to build their own computer. And one thing I can definitely say is that building an own computer is as awesome as the end result was.

Specs of the computer:

CPU: Intel Core i7-11700K (octa core, 3.60 GHz with turbo up to 5 GHz)

GPU: Nvidia RTX 2060

RAM: 32GB
